What makes Cuc Phuong different from other national parks in Vietnam?

Cuc Phuong is Vietnam’s first national park and a biodiversity hotspot. It’s known for its ancient forest, limestone mountains, and conservation centers for endangered primates and turtles. Ideal for eco-minded travelers near Hanoi.

From Hanoi, it takes about 2.5–3 hours by car or bus. From Ninh Binh, it’s just over an hour. The roads are paved but remote—having your own transport or a tour package makes the trip easier.

Wild animals are hard to spot in the wild, but you can visit rescue centers for gibbons, langurs, turtles, and pangolins. Birdwatching and night hikes may offer glimpses of nocturnal species.

There are marked trails, and short hikes can be done independently. However, longer treks or jungle routes are best done with a local guide, especially to learn about plants, insects, and cave systems.

Wear hiking shoes, long pants, and bring insect repellent, water, and a flashlight if staying overnight. Lodging inside the park is basic, so pack toiletries and snacks. Weather can be humid year-round.
